Pula, an antique city, is situated in the southern part of the Istrian peninsula and is its largest city. It represents a huge tourism destination, as well as a sports, historical, cultural and administrative center. Due to its favorable position on the Adriatic, it shows a Mediterranean climate — hot summers and warm and rainy winters.
The city itself has around 60,000 inhabitants but with its surrounding it reaches 90,000. As we know, Rome was built on seven hills — the city of Pula finds its place on and beneath seven hills as well.
Istrians’ predecessors were Histri, an ancient Illyrian tribe. It has been confirmed that Istria was populated ever since the 10th century BC.
Pula combines its historical core with its modern appearance, which tends to be a very good method to attract foreigners. This city of historical treasures offers gorgeous monuments; the Arena Colosseum dating from the second century appears to be the most famous. Its specialty comes from the fact that it is still in use for concerts and during the summer film festivals. Also, it is the best maintained one.
Pula’s old part gives an important insight to the Romans’ influence. Narrow streets and roman stones cover the old part of this city. Other interesting and historically enriched monuments are the Arch of Sergii and the temple of Rome and Augustus. This certainly is not all. Buildings from renaissance and the medieval ages spread all around the old part.
Istria has a lot to offer — tourist complexes, a pure blue sea, historical and cultural monuments and much much more. Its beautiful beaches seem to leave people breathless, its recreational complexes seem to be always full, historical core seems to tell its never-ending story over and over again. All of that has made it a popular stop on your tour de Europe. For those who do not enjoy playing football, basketball and other sports, for those of a free spirit, campsites seem to be the right choice for a chance to peek at Pula’s nature.
Nearby Pula lies the national park Brijuni, offering its nature in true senses, its flora and fauna.
All in all, coming to Pula has only one point — enriching your life…
